Abstract :
This paper discusses the creative process in the making of milestone motion-picture Silat Legenda, the first animation feature film in Malaysian cinema history. It was the outcome of circumstances shaped by the interaction between the film’s director Hassan Muthalib, as the dominant creative agent, with the evolving domain and field of animation production specifically within the Malaysian context. Silat Legenda is considered to have been the outcome of a creative process shaped by both enabling and constraining factors inherent to film production in Malaysia during the 1990s.
